Summer Discussion Series: Talking About Anxiety
Tuesday, July 6 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, repeating until Tuesday, August 17, 2021
An 8-week Virtual Discussion Group using ideas from Lynn Lyon’s excellent book, Anxious Kids Anxious Parents. Reading the book is optional; parents are welcome to attend any or all of the discussions. Facilitators will share tools and strategies from the book and we will explore ways to connect the information to our own lives.
There is a difference between healthy worrying and debilitating anxiety, but lots of kids are trapped in a cycle of anxiety that paralyzes them with fear. Sometimes our most immediate parenting responses actually encourage our kids to remain frightened. This series will help parents understand the cycle of anxiety. We will discuss tools to help our kids face challenges, step forward in spite of threat, and develop healthy independence and courage.
We will provide books at no cost to parents who attend the series (until we run out of books) and you will be able to pick up your book at Goodwin or Families First. Parents, grandparents and caregivers of kids of all ages are welcome to join this VIRTUAL group. Reading the chapters each week is NOT required. A Zoom link will be emailed to you a few days before the first meeting.
This group is supported by the Newburyport Bank.
