Two New Parenting Programs Offered at Families First (with list of all October programs)
PORTSMOUTH In addition to its usual schedule of parenting classes, parent groups and parent-child playgroups, Families First Health and Support Center will begin offering two new programs in October one for new mothers with postpartum depression or anxiety, and the other for mothers and children who have experienced domestic violence.
The Domestic Abuse Recovery Program consists of separate, simultaneous groups for mothers and their children (ages 7-13) who have experienced domestic violence. The group provides comfortable, confidential information, discussion and activities with caring, trained facilitators. Free child care is provided for younger children. This program is a partnership between Families First, A Safe Place, Seacoast Mental Health Center, and the Portsmouth office of the NH Division for Children, Youth and Families.
Mother-to-Mother: A Postpartum Adjustment Group is for moms with postpartum depression, anxiety or other challenges beyond everyday adjustment issues. Certified doulas Liz Gaudette, RN; Susan Remillard; and Andrea Rutherford will facilitate. Mothers who have given birth within the last year are welcome, along with their new babies. Free child care is available for older siblings with advance registration.
Details on these and other programs offered in October follow. All programs are free of charge unless otherwise noted, and all include free child care, with dinner for kids during evening programs. Advance signup is needed for all programs (unless Drop-ins OK is noted), and is always needed for child care. Call 603-422-8208 ext. 2.
