‘Ages and Stages’ Fair Teaches Parents About Choosing Best Activities, Gifts for Kids

PORTSMOUTH — At holiday time, and anytime, parents often wonder how to choose gifts, activities, and play that will be the most stimulating, fun and educational for their child’s particular age and stage. You could spend a lot of time researching recommendations, but there’s an easier way, and one that is fun for both parents and kids: the Ages and Stages Family Fair.

The fair takes place on Monday, Nov. 10, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Community Campus in Portsmouth. It is cosponsored by Families First Health and Support Center and the CATCH (Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment for Children) program at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Staff from both organizations will entertain kids with organized play in a separate room at the Community Campus, leaving parents free to explore the fair.

The fair includes: • Demonstrations of toys and play activities for different ages and stages. CATCH therapists will demonstrate a different toy every 15 minutes, with themes such as “How to play with toys at the table, in the bath and in the car.” • A chance to win free passes to fun family activities such as climbing and toddler gyms, museums, pottery making, theater and more. • Demonstrations of healthy snacks and recipes by a nutritionist from Families First. • Demonstrations of toys you can make from household items. • Oral health demonstrations by a Families First hygienist, with healthy and fun stocking-stuffer ideas. • Stimulating gift ideas from G. Willikers!, The Children’s Museum, RiverRun Bookstore, Discovery Toys and CATCH.

Admission to the fair and all activities are free. For more information, call 603-422-8208 ext. 2.
