Volunteer at FaPage: Volunteermilies First

Volunteers are critical in our work taking care of the health and well-being of our Seacoast community. About 200 volunteers give their time each year and make a difference. Families First has a variety of volunteer opportunities, ranging from providing medical care, to child care, to office support and more. Volunteer Opportunities

For Individuals

Childcare

Care for and have fun with children while their parents/guardians are in parenting class, have a doctor’s appointment, or studying for English class or GED program.
Commitment: Ongoing and regularly/weekly scheduled. Monday–Friday. Mornings 9:00am–12:00pm and/or evenings 5:30pm-7:30pm
Requirement: 16 years or older

Family Fun Night

Help with an evening program that is geared towards families who are facing homelessness and/or other significant stresses. Assist the coordinator with food activity prep & clean-up.
Commitment: Ongoing and regularly/weekly scheduled preferred. One-time projects on occasion. Monday evenings, 4:30-7:45pm (time is flexible)
Requirements: 18 years or older

Events

Help make Families First events a success by providing support such as set-up, serving, selling calendars, being an ambassador explaining programs, providing informational material, and more.
Commitment: One-time projects; days and hours vary.
Requirements: 16 years or older (On occasion, events may be appropriate for all ages. Youth under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.)

Fundraising

Assist Families First in raising the funds needed to keep providing health, dental, and family care regardless of the ability to pay. Hold a fundraiser or item drive at your work, school, book club, etc. Lend your support in planning an event. Make connections within the community, and more.
Commitment: Dependent upon needs and abilities.
Requirements: Dependent upon needs and abilities.

Mailings

Meet new people and enjoy tasty sweets as you lend your time in assisting with a mailing project. Stuff envelopes, label, and sort large mailings, readying them for the post office.
Commitment: One-time projects. About 5 large mailings completed each year.
Requirements: 16 years or older (On occasion, mailings may be appropriate for younger ages. Youth under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.)

Office Support

Work alongside staff to ensure day-to-day tasks run smoothly, allowing greater outreach and services to clients. Call patients to confirm appointments, scan documents, file, enter data, etc. Volunteers work within all departments; tasks may be different depending on volunteer skills and agency needs.
Commitment: Ongoing/regularly scheduled and one-time projects. Days and times depend upon the position.
Requirements: 16 years or older. Health Center volunteers cannot be current medical or dental patients.

Professionals & Clinical

Board Member

Join Families First’s Board of Directors in leading the agency in its mission of contributing to the health and well-being of the Seacoast community.
Commitment: 3-year term. Approximately 5 hours a month. Monthly meetings are held in the morning. Other meetings are held as needed.
Requirements: 18 years or older

Committee Member

Lend your special expertise to one of our committees (Development, Finance, Governance, Human Resources, and Programs & Policy).
Commitment: Ongoing with monthly meetings depending on committee.
Requirements: 18 years or older

Clinical

Use your clinical specialties whether you’re a doctor, nurse or other medical professional.
Commitment: 3-year term. Hours depend on position.
Requirements: 18 years or older, currently licensed in your area, background checks, and more. Contact us for more information.

Dentist

Practice dentistry with Families First. Depending on needs, you may see patients onsite at the Dental Center or in the community on the Mobile Dental Van.
Commitment: 3-year term. Hours depend on position.
Requirements: 18 years or older, currently licensed to practice, background checks, and more. Contact us for more information.

Family Center Program Speaker

Share your professional knowledge or specialty topic through a parenting class, parenting series, or parent recharge group. Sample topics include anger management, mental health, scrapbooking, etc.
Commitment: One-time presentation or recurring class/series. Classes usually occur in the evenings and parent recharge occurs Thursday mornings.
Requirements: 18 years or older

For Groups

Family Fun Night Dinner Sponsor

Engage your community group or company in supporting local families in need in a very personal way. Every Monday night, Family Fun Night gives families facing homelessness and similar stresses dinner and fun activities to reduce stress and boost family morale and unity. Volunteer groups can sponsor the night by either providing a nutritious evening meal or donating $200 for the purchase of the meal for one or more of the weekly programs throughout the year. Sponsors may also have the opportunity to volunteer support for that night’s activities. Contact us for more info.
Commitment: One-time project or reoccurring. Monday evenings, 4:30 to 7:45pm (time is flexible).
Requirements: 18 years or older. Maximum onsite capacity is 10 volunteers.

Family Fun Night Activity

Engage your community group or company in supporting local families in need in a very personal way. Every Monday night, Family Fun Night gives families facing homelessness and similar stresses dinner and fun activities to reduce stress and boost family morale and unity. Volunteer groups can facilitate the activity portion of the night’s program for the children. If planned in advance, groups can create their own creative activities. Whether you are a company looking for a corporate volunteer opportunity for your employees or a book club seeking to give back together, volunteering as a group to help us put together a large mailing is a great option. Families First has multiple large mailing projects to complete throughout the year. Tasks include stuffing envelopes, labeling, sorting, and readying them for the post office.
